It is said that a watchful goatherd noticed his goats behaving in an uncommonly energized manner after feasting off the red "cherries" of a particular evergreen plant.  After trying this "forbidden fruit" for himself, he soon realized that the energiszing effects were true and through a liquid concoction by local Monks, the beloved drink was born.
